Orange Sky – Monday Music

alexi murdoch, orange sky, morning music, paul richardson blog

We’re surrounded by sounds from the moment we wake until we sleep. Even dead silence brings whispers when you pay attention. Most sounds are invisible background, part of existence that we ignore.

Songs are meant to be different — listened to. But only some songs reach the front of the mind. The ones that drift into my morning music usually rise up for one of three reasons: The lyrics make me consider; the music’s style seeps into my bones; or the song is from my past and triggers a feeling or memory.

This song is Number 3 – back to this blog’s past life, Champaign, IL, college, watching the OC, worrying that I’d never been as cool as those characters, but feeling on top of some world, wondering what my future would hold. I still do. I can go back there. Like this morning…

But when I am alone
When I’ve thrown off the weight of this crazy stone
When I’ve lost all care for the things I own
That’s when I miss you
That’s when I miss you
You who are my home
You who are my home now

Orange Sky – Alexi Murdoch (2002)
