Food for Thought: Chicken Cutlets

chicken cutlets, paul richardson blog

I started this blog in 2007, a golden heyday for personal blogs, before they disappeared during the death march toward social media. Much was lost.

Facebook and Instagram feel like a town square. Posting there is standing in the middle plaza, under the fountain, sharing to everyone walking by. A soapbox for all.

A blog is far different. An ancient shop, tucked in the corner of that town square – a forgotten, dusty curiosity. The messages inside remain unknown except to those drawn behind the curtain.

Speakers on the plaza pedestal expect an audience, want others to stop and look, measure success with popularity. But it can be even more satisfying to live in the old shop, growing intimate connections with others — not because they stroll the town square, but because they are drawn into the mystery of your old nook. They share a sensibility with you.

The beauty of a personal blog is that I write for no one except my future self. And anyone who happens to stumble into this forgotten online cabinet – ‘Ye Old Shoppe of Paul’s Curiosities.’ Thanks for being here.

On this day, like a conversation with a friend, or the older version of myself, I’d like to share photos of an attempt at chicken cutlets. Polished enough to post on social media, the town square? No way. Who would care? But here? With you? Why not…
