Obama on Stem Cells

FYI:

Stem cell research policy has been oft discussed.  First, over the last eight years…

Under President George W. Bush , federal money for research on human embryonic stems cells was limited to those stem cell lines that were created before Aug. 9, 2001. No federal dollars could be used on research with cell lines from embryos destroyed from that point forward.

But now…

Obama’s move is expected to lift that restriction. The official said the aim of the policy is restore “scientific integrity” to the process […]

He said he would lift Bush’s ban and “ensure that all research on stem cells is conducted ethically and with rigorous oversight.”

  1. Yeah we really need this… stems cells have shown such promise, and all of this shown outside of our borders. I understand the morality of this situation is complicated, but why do politics need to intercede to impose that? Just a thought, hope all is well Paul!

  2. I agree completely. The intersection of politics and morality is almost always a disaster.

Another example of that occurred in November out there where you are, in lovely California. Proposition 8’s passage was based on the same sad logic: enforcing morality through politics. Depressing. But, slowly these things correct themselves, I hope.

As for me, Life is terrific. You?
