Simple Pleasures

I was thinking about something this morning: What are your favorite simple pleasures in life?

By that I mean, what regular, average, uninspiring thing that happens on most days do you think that you enjoy more than others?

The one that comes to mind for me right away is my first cup of coffee. I literally live for mornings and first cups of coffee. The first few sips. I am rarely more content than during those moments. I’ll drink half a pot throughout the day, but nothing compares with that first one.

What are yours? Tying your shoes? Sneezing? Hearing the sound of your laptop booting up in the morning? Hearing someone make a deep, belly laugh?

This question genuinely interests me. Remember….something that happens on most days that, for some reason, you enjoy more than other people.

  1. I don’t know if waking up with my body pillow between my legs counts, but just in case, my #2 would be walking quikcly across campus without overheating.

Keep the creep comments to yourself.

  2. lol. Your first one definitely counts. I don’t think there is anything creeping about body pillows and legs.

And does walking quickly across campus mean getting somewhere fast without having to stop and make small talk with people you see along the way? Do you ever do that “don’t-make-eye contact” maneuver to avoid having to chit-chat?

  3. Walking across campus quickly is simply because walking slow is for old people, peg legs, and foreigners. This is America; we should walk fast. However, I walk so fast that even if its freezing outside I immediately start sweating when I arrive at my indoor destination. The trick is walk quickly so you’re still American, but slow enough so you don’t overheat when you stop walking.

  4. hahaha. “Peg leg” may have been the funniest addition to a comment that I have ever seen.

    Sheer brilliance.

  5. Hmmm… I have several, but waking up naturally, not by an alarm, and not having to get up right away tops my list.

I also love the quiet and peacefulness of the night after everyone has gone to sleep and it’s just me alone with my thoughts.

The weirdest one is how I feel after I’ve had to go to the bathroom and have been holding it forever. *sigh* Nothing compares to that kind of relief 🙂

  6. I’m right there with you on the love of coffee, but I take mine exclusively in the afternoon. I can’t drink it in the morning, but that midday pick-me-up… best part of my day.

  7. Afternoon coffee. Isn’t that yet another sign that you belong somewhere in Europe? Mr. Hemingway…
